Does Diabetes Make You Tired?
This is a common question, especially for those who are newly-diagnosed. But once you understand the dynamics of diabetes and how it affects the body, it will make sense as to why an individual has felt a loss of energy before they were diagnosed.

Diabetes is not the reason why a diabetic feels tired: however, the symptoms that come with it will have that affect on the body. Since diabetes is an imbalance in blood sugar levels, and sugar is what the body uses for it's energy source, it stands to reason that an imbalance in sugar would create an imbalance in energy.
If a diabetic is not continuously monitoring their glucose levels, they will experience dips in them. These dips come at a price. The body is being severely drained of much-needed glucose. In response, it feels the effects in the form of a loss of energy, or feeling tired.
But for a non-diabetic, feeling tired is simply that. For a diabetic, feeling tired means being zapped of energy for even the simplest of tasks. You could even venture as far as feeling sleepy.
But some of these episodes can be diabetic-induced. For example, not eating meals at regular intervals. Skipping snacks is also common with diabetics. Or not having the right foods on hand when it is time to refuel the body.
Even medication can induce tiredness. Taking a diabetic prescription and not following it up with food can cause these effects. Even taking the wrong dosage can do the same thing.
The key is to eat the proper foods, at the proper time and take your medication as scheduled. If you still experience tiredness, you should consult with your doctor.
