Protein Plus Exercise Equals Improvements for Type 2
We all have that friend who can lose weight by just thinking about exercise. He is the person those fitness infomercials are talking to – “Just 20 minutes a day, three days a week, and you too can have the body of a supermodel!”

We also have that friend (or, for some, you are that friend) who can spend hours working out and see little to no results. It's an unfortunate fact of life when it comes to exercise: what works for some doesn't work for everyone.
But now, scientists may have figured out why.
Additional Extracts
A team from Massey University's School of Sport and Exercise in New Zealand are researching how a new keratin-derived protein extract can enhance the benefits of exercise in type 2 diabetics.
The protein, which is make from a unique amino acid and mineral composition, is still in its early stages of testing. However, the research shows a lot of promise.
“One of our participants who has now completed taking part in the study, says he is sleeping much better and he finds his alertness and concentration have improved,” said research officer Dr. Martin Gram. “Another came on board at a time where her doctors wanted her to go on insulin treatment as her sugar levels had been increasing at an alarming rate. At completion of the study she experienced a massive drop. Naturally she felt fantastic when she got the results from her blood test, and her aim now is to get it even lower.”
How Does It Work?
Dr. Gram explained that, for many people with type 2 diabetes, the benefits of exercise can be damaged by rising glucose levels while working out. “The elevated glucose levels in the blood is increasing the ... 'reactive oxygen species',” he said. This stops insulin from working properly in the body.
The researchers believe that the keratin protein could act as an antioxidant and brake the circle of rising glucose during exercise. If Dr. Gram and his team's studies prove to be effective, this protein could be a breakthrough for the many people struggling to treat type 2 diabetes.
